NUCPP PRESIDENT STRIBLING ADDRESSES TNBC
Pension Warriors,
NUCPP President Ken Stribling was invited to be a guest speaker at the Teamsters National Black Caucus (TNBC) Convention last week in Miami, FL.
Ken spoke about his personal journey, and the journey of the NUCPP, to fight to protect the hard-earned pensions of so many retirees and workers. At the conclusion of his speech, he stated:
“ I am here to remind you that activism is not a spectator sport; standing on the sidelines talking about it and watching will not bring about any changes. You must be willing to get involved and stay involved. So that you know, it is not necessary for everyone to go to Washington DC. The travel cost can be very expensive for large groups. However, we need people who can make phone calls, send emails, or attend town hall meetings when your senators or congressional members are home. Go and voice your concerns: write letters, and please make a financial contribution to the organization of your choice that will get the job done. And always be sure to Vote!”
During and after Ken’s speech, he received two standing ovations from the crowd for all of the hard work and the NUCPP's role in Saving Our Pensions.
Pension Warriors/Retirement Security Warriors, for those of you who fought for our pensions, you know how true these words are. We know we can't just sit on the sidelines now that we are also watching to protect our Retirement Security Benefits, such as our pensions, social security, and Medicare. We need to stay vigilant and read between the lines of what is being said in Washington. And we also need to pay attention as elections get closer and make sure we know who is really going to look out for what is important to us, and who is only giving us ‘lip service’. We heard plenty of that during the pension fight, and then we saw who actually voted to help us.
So, Warriors, pay attention to what is happening because only you can decide who earns your vote. We also ask that you continue to support the NUCPP. We know that we can count on your activism if it becomes necessary.
And one last point - Congratulations, President Stribling, for an excellent job at the TNBC conference and for continuing to lead the NUCPP. We say ' Great Job ' from the Board of Directors and its members!
Take Care and Stay Safe!
