Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown: NUCPP CELEBRATION - One Year Ago Today, A Big Victory for Ohio Retirees
Pension Warriors, Please see the press release from Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. We are forever grateful to Senator Brown, along with ALL of the Democratic Senators and President Joe Biden, who backed up their vow to support us with their vote. It's important to continue to remember our friends in Washington.
Friend,
One year ago today, President Biden signed one of the biggest victories for Ohio workers into law:
The Butch Lewis Act, which saved pensions for over 100,000 Ohioans with NO PENSION CUTS.
Today, I celebrated that victory with Teamsters 436 workers near Cleveland.
For years, workers and retirees and small business owners fought for a solution to the multi-employer pension crisis. They rallied in Ohio and D.C., trying to get Washington to listen.
Politicians ignored them. Told them to settle for less. Told them to accept devastating cuts to the pensions they earned over a lifetime of hard work—all while handing massive tax giveaways to corporate CEOs.
So many times, we wondered if we could truly get this done—but we never gave up. Together, we fought like hell.
And on March 11, 2021, we delivered. With the stroke of a pen, President Biden signed the Butch Lewis Act into law, protecting the hard-earned pensions of 100,000 Ohio retirees.
Thank you for fighting alongside me, and for never giving up.
Sincerely,
Sherrod
