#7 NUCPP AT WORK - Pension Video, PRC, IBT Video

Hello Pension Warriors! We hope you all are well. There are many things to update you on. This update will cover the busy month we had in October, and #8 NUCPP AT WORK, which will follow, will cover November.

1. October 26-27, 2022 - The NUCPP Board of Directors and many of its Advisory Board Members traveled to Washington, DC for a hectic schedule:

Wednesday, October 26th:

i. We started the day on Wednesday by delivering Thank You cards to most of the offices in the House and Senate that had played such a crucial role in approving the American Rescue Plan Act in March 2021. Although Congress was unfortunately not in session, we were able to meet with and thank many of the staff members that, as we all know, played such an essential role in getting our pension relief.

ii. Later in the day, we were invited by Kevin McDermott. Labor Policy Director, Committee on Education and Labor, Chairman Bobby Scott, to film a video of what the ARPA pension meant to our retirees. To date, two of the videos were released: as others are available, we will forward them to you.

iii. Wednesday evening, we attended the Pension Rights Center Event in Washington. In addition to being a fundraiser for PRC, the event was a celebration of the life of Karen Ferguson, PRC Founder, who passed away earlier this year. The Board of Directors and Cynthia McDaniels were honored to speak at the Event as we recognized Karen Ferguson, Karen Friedman, PRC, and the NUCPP's role in the passage of the American Rescue Act.

2. October 27, 2022 - The Board of Directors held their 3rd Meeting with IBT. At our previous meetings, we met with General President Sean O’Brien and James Donovan, Director of Political and Legislative Action. but Mr. O’Brien was unavailable for the October 27th meeting. In addition to continuing our discussion regarding the partnership of the NUCPP and the IBT, we were honored to be introduced to a training class of Business Agents as the group that ‘saved the pensions of the retirees and the active workers’. We then had a brief discussion with the group of BA’s concerning the importance of active workers and retirees continuing to stay involved.

As a direct result of the meeting held on October 27th with IBT, General President O’Brien forwarded the attached video to recognize the crucial role that the NUCPP played in the Saving of The Pensions and the IBT’s commitment to working with the Retirees going forward.
